Christian discipleship and service have been at the core of Okontoe’s mission since the beginning.
Our rustic, wilderness setting offers an atmosphere most people don’t experience in their day-to-day lives anymore.
Dozens of young people went through our Discipleship and Advanced Discipleship programs during the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The 2000s have been years of more intimate long-term discipleship for individuals, couples and families, focusing on family-style Christian community.
Throughout the years we’ve used dynamic, hands-on programming like:
- Boundary Waters canoe trips
- Wilderness skills
- Ministry to First Nations communities in remote areas of Canada
- Dog sledding
- Horse-drawn sleigh rides
- Gardens and outdoor cooking
- Off-the-grid living
- Hospitality for our cabin and campground guests, including care of the property
These have provided unique opportunities for both discipleship and service for those staying at Okontoe, as well as outreach and ministry opportunities to the local community and beyond.
